Virtual Campus.

...

Each researcher can register

using the electronic identity issued by

their home institution. The first sign-in to the system

functions as the registration process.

The registration form is pre-filled with data

retrieved from the Identity Provider (IdP), which can be modified

or added to if necessary. By selecting the home institution and the appropriate role (

...

in this case, Researcher), the ORCID widget

will appear (Figure 1.).

Connecting researcher profile with ORCID

Using the ORCID widget, researchers can link their ORCID profile to their Virtual Campus account. This step is required to complete the registration process.

Clicking on the ORCID

With that widget, the researcher connects his ORCID profile with the one in the Virtual Campus. Click on that widget redirects the researcher to the ORCID sign-in page and after . After successfully signing in to ORCID, the researcher is redirected back to the Virtual Campus registration page with a success message (Figure 2).

Registration - Successful Profile Connection

This is a prerequisite for the researcher to be able to register in the Virtual Campus. After submitting Once the registration is submitted, the UNIC admin receives an email notification for confirmation. Each researcher can see view publicly available data retrieved from ORCID. By authenticating into After signing in to the system, these this data are will be displayed under the Personal Information option. Some of these data are “Personal Information” section. This data includes items such as Biography, Websites & social links Social Links, and Keywords (Figure 3.). Also, if some If any data is not correctincorrect, it is necessary to change it must be updated in the source system, which is ORCID. There is an option here that allows researchers Researchers can also choose to share their personal data and preferences with other researchers within the UNIC Open Science Campus.

If researchers decide not to share their data, they won’t have access to comparisons with other researchers generated by the matchmaking algorithm (Figure 4.).

Research interests and matchmaking

Researchers can further refine their profiles under the “Research and Teaching Interests” section Also within the Virtual Campus there is the possibility of additional profiling of researchers under the Research and Teaching Interests option (Figure 4.). With the leaders of the Work package (WP5) was agreed that researchers will be able to They can select keywords from the following categories : such as thematic lines, disciplines, fields of research, fields of teaching, and modes of cooperation . Each researcher can choose as much as he wants keywords from each of the categories(as defined by the leaders of Work Package 5). Researchers may select as many keywords as desired. For this purpose, the following catalogues catalogs are used: Thematic Lines, Web of Science keywordsKeywords, ISCED fields Fields, and Modes of Cooperation. These catalogues catalogs are available to researchers and are read-only and searchable.

Based on those the selected keywords, the matchmaking algorithm in the background calculates the total percentage of matching of alignment between the researcher with each of the and other researchers in within the Virtual Campus. This is shown in displayed under the “UNIC Mapping” option UNIC mapping (Figure 56.).

The algorithm also calculates Additionally, the matching percentage is calculated for each of the chosen categories. The results of these calculations selected category. Results are presented in a table for each of the categories with a comparison of the chosen keywords and the corresponding percentage of matching , comparing the researcher’s selected keywords with the matching percentage for each category (Figure 6.). These results details are available accessible by clicking on the details Details. This algorithm was not planned in the initial proposal of the project but was implemented as an addition in order to achieve the prerequisites for the build networks of to enhance networking opportunities among researchers within the UNIC Open Science Campus.
